HISTORY IN BRIEF
![]() |
Keith was born in Sydney in 1926.
He joined the RAAF in 1944 and when pilot training ceased at the end of the war he was transferred to the British Army and served with the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment in India, Burma & Malaya for the next four years.
At the completion of the four years in the British Army, Keith was demobilized and took up a position in North Burma with a British mining company.
He returned to Australia and then studied Mining Engineering in Melbourne through the government post war training scheme for ex service personnel.
He married June in 1953 and they had three girls, Karen, Linda and Joanne. The three daughters spent most of their life as professional students.
Keith then started a company called Austral Mining which manufactured crushing plants and mining equipment and was located in Boundary road Archerfield, a suburb of Brisbane and Brisbane's secondary airport.
Keith sold Austral Mining in 1988 and commenced a period of "Semi-Retirement".
AVIATION
Keith's became interested in flying at an early age. His father was a member of the Australian Flying Corp in the First World War and his father's enthusiasm rubbed off onto the young Keith. This interest has now again been passed onto the next generation, with his three daughters Karen, Linda and Joanne all being licensed private pilots. No doubt we will see the same enthusiasm and a continuation of the tradition from grandson Rory by the year 2014 when he will be 16 years old. Rory will therefore open the second century (first century will be 1914 to 2014) for the Carmody's family ties with Australian aviation.
Keith's first aircraft was a 1960 Cessna 210.
His second aircraft was another Cessna 210. This time it was a 1964 turbocharged model. This aircraft had to be landed at Townsville when the nose-wheel became lazy and would not extend.

Keith's third aircraft was as Twin Comanche VH-EDS that he had for 6 years and eventually sold to Johnny Shuttlewood. The Comanche is still owned by John and remains at Archerfield to this day.
Keith's next aircraft was a B58 Baron that he only kept for a year.
This second B58 had larger fuel tanks and landing lights in the engine nacelles. This became Keith's fifth aircraft VH-KCN and it is still flown regularly by him to day. It is currently hangared at Archerfield alongside his former twin Comanche.

REDLAND BAY HOME
The Home at Redland Bay is on acreage and has a pool and tennis court. The tennis court is organized by the professional tennis player June and is most famous and notorious for breaking legs. June also plants the weeds and seeds and looks after the curlews that also live in the garden. June also spends all waking hours watching the tennis on TV whenever it is playing. When it is not playing she still spends the time watching tennis replays on the Video.
Keith is required to catch the green frogs that frequent the toilet bowls in the house and he has become quite expert and efficient at this. It is most disconcerting for visitors to visit the toilet and see a frog looking up at them. It could jump anywhere.
All visitors are required to duck dive in the pool to collect all the leaves from the bottom before being allowed to use the pool.
