OTHER WALKS OR THINGS TO DO

There is a multitude of things to do in PNG. There are other walks that very few people have been on. Mt. Giluwe is a particularly spectacular mountain, resembling Mt. Kenya, being free standing and having twin peaks. It is 4368m/14327ft and is magnificent. It is only a few hours out of Mt.Hagen City.

If in Mt.Hagen City, why not climb Mt. Hagen Mountain? This too is a great walk. Only an over night trip but nevertheless a fantastic walk. The summit is patrolled by a couple of peregrine falcons, which is a buzz. Mt.Hagen mountain is 3835m/12579ft.

Mt. Keegham up the other end of the Hagen range is also a great overnight or even day walk. It is not quite as tall as Hagen, but is pretty close. It has huge repeater stations near the summit, but they do not detract from the view or experience, however, they're hardly the attraction. From the summit there is a near verticle drop off that would be nearly a kilometre high, looking down into a very sparsely populated valley.

Mt. Elimbari is also a great option. Near Kundiawa it sticks out because of its odd shape. It is a large bluff, and spectacular views are to be had at the summit. It is also a good overnight trip.

Trekking in the Tari Valley is interesting for a Cultural experience with the exotic and colourful Huli people. If you've still got a bit of a mountain bug, climbing Mt. Kerowa is certainly interesting, a good (but long) day trip.

If one becomes sick of all those darn mountains, why not head down to the sepik for a canoe ride down the mighty Sepik River, or a large variety of places for Scuba diving! The virtually pristine reefs of Milne Bay are becoming renowned the world over as being one of the best kept secrets around!!

If you then think your going to run out of things to do, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction! My contact info is on the contact page, and don't be afraid to write to me if you're interested in any of the things mentioned (especially the Wilhelm Traverse).
